Our Community Garden

Nurturing the seeds of a growing community

Community Group Plots

All groups within the community are welcome to hire a plot in the Garden, with limited plots available for community members. Please contact us for further information. Garden rules & charges apply.

We encourage volunteers to donate their skills and time or just come along and potter! In return we offer a share of the harvest, great morning teas and lots of laughs with good company.

Opportunities

Meet new people; OH&S-Toolbox safety; Living Lightly event; Committee membership; helping others; cook & sample sessions; propagate plants; exercise & fresh air! If you can provide mentoring skills in gardening, art & design or building let us know!

Garden History

The Garden's original design was by Brett Steers in October 2006. It was first established in January 2007 with an $18,000 grant from Housing Tas in a disused Council owned park. It has evolved into an oasis of greenery, activity and inclusion.

A twelve month grant of $50,000 from Dept of Health & Ageing in 2008 allowed employment of a part time Project Officer and a Trainee which saw the Garden develop rapidly.

Currently the Community House supports the continued development of the Garden with a Gardener for 3 hours/week. Numerous projects and activities are held regularly and involve local schools, service providers & volunteers.
